PROBLEMS WITH INSTALL HERE IS THE ANSWER TO FIX

If you can't see the new version of map installed try installing version 3.3.4 first and then install the newer version of map. This usually fixes any problems with map install.

Basecamp or Mapsource Upgrade

You may need to remove the map from your Garmin GPS unit first, to do this simply connect your GPS to your computer go to the Start Command lower left corner of your computer then click on computer, it will bring up your computer look for your GPS like another hard drive, go to that drive and move the file gmapsupp.img it will be about 7K to your desktop as a backup. Then do the install following the instructions. Run the install program for the GPS by running Basecamp then when you see your GPS connected right click on internal memory, then you will see install maps on unit.


To upgrade your map just install the update into your Basecamp or Mapsource and download to your GPS, you can use the basic instructions for install. The new map will overlay the old map. Make sure Basecamp or Mapsource is not running when you run the map install. Once installed then start Basecamp or Mapsource and connect your GPS and update your GPS unit. Instructions are above.

Download the Panama Street Map for Mac from our Downloads page.
After the download completes, click on the panama.gmapi.zip file and it will automatically uncompress.

 

  • The uncompressed file will be panama.gmapi. You cannot open this file on the Mac. Trying to do so will produce an error.
  • Download and install Garmin MapInstall.

      This will install Garmin MapManager and Garmin MapInstall.

  • Start Garmin MapManager from your Applications folder and a Finder window will open. Navigate to and select the panama.gmapi file you downloaded and uncompressed in Step 2. Do not try to open
  • The installation windows should ask to install the Panama map. Click install and when completed click Quit.
  • Download and install Basecamp. Run the Basecamp application and select the Panama Street Map from the dropdown map list visible in the top right corner. You should be able to view the Panama map. Zoom into Panama City to make sure you can see the full details of the map.
  • Select the Unlock menu and select Edit Unlock Codes. Click the Add button and enter the unlock code we sent you. In the Comment field enter Panama. If you don't have the unlock code, please email your Garmin Unit ID to us.
  • Connect the GPS unit to the Mac USB port. Start the Garmin MapInstall application and follow the prompts. After it completes sending the map wait for about 30 seconds and eject the Garmin GPS.
  • Disconnect the GPS from the Mac and turn on. To test that the map installed correctly, use the Tools/Settings/Map then Map Info button. If the Panama Street Map is listed, the unit is now ready for navigation. it may take up to 20 minutes to obtain the initial GPS fix. Make sure you are in open area with a good clear view of the sky.

 

MAC INSTALLATION: Alternate Option

 

New Map Installation, to update an SD card please see bottom of page.

Update SD Map

    Download the SD version from our Downloads page.
    Connect your GPS to your Mac.
    In Finder drag the downloaded file to the Garmin folder of the GPS SD card (not the internal memory).


If you run into problems, please contact us and we will assist. We are aware that this seems to be a complicated process however, we have no control over Garmin's install procedures.

Micro SD update.


To install the update from our web site, you first must have a Locked SD card from Panama-GPS, if you have the MicroSD then you would download the *.img file and unzip then copy the *.img file to the SD card by connecting the GPS to the computer and locating the SD Card by your comupter look for the folder Garmin and install over the previous IMG file. Turn off your GPS unit unplug from the Computer and turn it back on again you should have the new version.

 

The file that you want to replace on your Micro SD is gmapsupp.img which is located in the Garmin Folder on the SD card This is the image file Which is indicated on our web site download as SDImage update.

Garmin Unit ID

 

The Garmin Unit ID number is made of 10 digits and is a unique electronic identifier for your GPS. The number usually starts with a 3 but may not if you are using Garmin Mobile XT or other software. The unit ID is not visible on the unit externally.
 
There are 2 methods to get your GPS ID.
 

FROM THE GPS
NUVI AND STREETPILOT SERIES
 

1. Turn the GPS on.
2. Select the Configuration menu (wrench icon).
3. Select SETTINGS, SYSTEM.
4. Select the ABOUT option where you will see the GPS ID number.
 

HANDHELD MODELS (Etrex, 60Csx, 76Csx, etc)
 

1. Turn on the GPS.
2. Select the Configuration menu (wrench icon).
3. Select SYSTEM.
4. Press the MENU button.
5. Select Software Version.
6. The GPS ID will show in the lower line.

4. Pulse el botón MENU.
5. Seleccione la versión del software.
6. El ID de GPS se mostrarán en la línea inferior.
